Heaven is For Real

THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ!

"Heaven is For Real" is an amazing book with an incredible true story!! After reading this book you can't doubt the power of God and how amazing he is. He saved this little boy's life and showed his presence through this little boy's trip to Heaven. This book has proof that Heaven is for real and that the Bible is not just a story, but it is truth.
I had tears in my eyes and chills during parts of this book. The stories that were told in this book show the reader that there is so much more to life. I highly recommend this book. It is a good read and hard to put down! I read this book in 2 days. Short and easy read! I think it is a book that anyone can enjoy and a great stocking stuffer for anyone who needs a pick me up. This book shows the power of our God and the strong belief of one little boy who showed us that our God is an awesome God.

The True Gentleman

The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others rather than his own; and who appears well in any company; a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe.
- John Walter Wayland
The other week my dad was telling me about pledging for Sigma Alpha Epsilon while at the University of Texas. He told me that they had to memorize, "The True Gentleman" and SAE creed. I looked it up and I really felt like the words are a good representation of what a gentleman should be like. It is sad that some boys in college don't observe chivalry or respect. So I hope anyone who wants to call themselves a true gentleman looks at this quote and live by it, because for a SAE, another frat or no frat at all. These are words that should be lived by and by doing that nothing can go wrong.

Winter's tale and her new tail

I just watched the movie, Dolphin Tale, and I was so inspired by Winter, the dolphin. Her ability to overcome a disability of having her tail amputated is amazing. A tail on the dolphin is vital in order for a dolphin's survival. So the fact that someone can make a prosthetic tail for Winter is almost a miracle. Winter is alive and healthy as can be today. Check it out for your self and see a live view of Winter! It is amazing that we have come so far in technology today, that we can give a dolphin their swimming ability back and even walking ability or etc. to a human being. Watching this movie made me feel blessed and thankful that I have the ability to walk, swim and etc. But knowing that we live in a world of progression, there will always be something to help anyone and everyone out if you have faith. You can make anything happen.

Caving into social media

seeing this picture makes me smile every time
So I have caved in, I have gotten a tumblr...another blog! I am still trying to figure out how to use it, but by Christmas break I will have perfected it! I promise!

It is so important to be plugged into so many social medias. So I decided to get plugged into another one. Apparently it is a good thing to get plugged into. I am going to try my best to keep up with everything I have and school, haha!

I titled it, "it's the small things in life," because I believe that the small things make everyone happy and happiness is the best thing and a key to a good life. Kinda cheesy, but really! So I feel like by having this tumblr it is positive and will be happy! Who couldn't enjoy a mix of happy things and dreams?

DIY Easy Masterpiece, That Can Never Be Messed Up- Crayon Melted Canvas

Crayon Melted Canvas Art.
My boyfriend's manly colored masterpiece

Best date/girl's night idea! (my boyfriend thought this project was so fun!) This could even be a birthday party idea. Or maybe just because. You don't need a reason to craft! Seriously, it is so fun and super easy to do! It takes as little or as much time as you want it to take! It took me about 30 minutes to perfect my canvas just the way I wanted it too. I could have easily finished it quicker or even taken my time. There is no way you can mess this art project up. You only need a few simple things and to follow a few simple steps!

Need:
Canvas
Crayons (We used 120 crayons for about 2 canvases)
Hot glue gun
Hot glue
Blow dryer

My girly colored masterpiece
Steps:

  1. Set up the crayons at the top of the canvas they way you would like it
  2. Hot glue the crayons to the top edge of the canvas
  3. Once they are hot glued down, turn your blow dryer on high heat and watch the crayons melt their colors down the canvas
  4. Tilt the canvas to have your colors run down the way you'd like them to (even use the blow dryer to help)
  5. Once you have it the way you like, you need to let it dry for a few minutes and it is ready to hang!

The nice thing about this project is that even if the next day you don't like the way the colors ran down the canvas, you can always plug the hair dryer back in and blow the colors they way you like them. This project can never be messed up! It is impossible and always looks good! Enjoy this fun and easy project!

Hate Miley or Team Miley?

I am writing a Facebook Hate paper on Miley Cyrus, what is your personal opinion on Miley Cyrus. There are so many Facebook "hate" groups about her. What is your personal opinion? Do you have a personal opinion? If you don't like her, why? Do you have 7 reasons you hate her? (just playing off the song haha) I would love your feedback. I know we all have our personal opinions on everything. But should we post public things about this stuff? It can be hurtful and bring people down. Just things to think about! But please share your personal opinions, it would help me write this paper...it is a final for my college Journalism course!

Social Media, the way, the truth and the light for Journalism, Public Relations, and Marketing majors.

Jay F. Hicks came and spoke to my Journalism 2303 class this past week and gave us some advice for Journalism, Public Relations, and Marketing majors on how to do all you can to prepare ourselves for our jobs after college. I always thought just get an internship before you graduate, have a few connections and perfect your resume and you're good to go. False. Hicks informed the class on how to be the most marketable after college. What is the main thing you need to know? Social Media is key. The world is revolving around technology, so they is where the future of the job market needs to focus when we want to prepare ourselves for a future job or interview.

He mentioned a few facts about social media that I never knew such as:
  •  There are 8 million Facebook users
  • 10 billion tweets a day
  • 1 billion Youtube videos
  • 6 billion Flicker uploads
These facts are only a few of many. I was shocked with how many people in the world use the same networking, video and picture sites.  With this technology right in front of us, it is so easy to get a hold of anyone else in the world. So with this power, we should make the best use out of it as we can. Hicks recommended that we have multiple blogs, one "me" blog, one "passion" blog and a "professional" blog. We are suggested to have a personal twitter and a professional twitter. With these outlets of our thoughts and works, we can share and show the world all we can do. Hicks has done all of this and made himself known.

"Google is the way, the truth, and the light for bloggers." -Jay F. Hicks

This quote from Hicks really stuck out to me, because I never realized how much I needed to be plugged into all the social media that I can be plugged into. Google is so much more than a search engine. It has everything you need on the internet, search engine, maps, translator, videos, news, shopping and images to name a few. Google is a really powerful resource, which means that all other media is important to me as a Public Relations major and a Marketing minor.

Spaghetti Not-So-Formal

WANTED: Baylor students, faculty or Waco citizens who loves to have get a great deal on delicious food, love to have a good time, and like to dress it down. If you fit the description above, then you should attend "Spaghetti Not-So-Formal" hosted by Baylor's Delta Delta Delta and Alpha Tau Omega.

This advancer for "Spaghetti Not-So-Formal" was so fun to write, because I am a member of Tri Delta. Being a member, I get to participate and serve food and eat some yummy Italian food. It was easy to interview someone, since I am a member. It was just like a casual conversation between Meg and I. But I did find it hard to start the advancer. I think it was hard to start it because it was really short and blunt. But once I got writing, it all came naturally. So, if you are reading my blog, this is a personal invite, from me to come to "Spaghetti Not-So-Formal," from 5:00 to 7:30 on the 9th in Cashion 510 on the Baylor University Campus. So come, because it benefits St. Jude!

Flying Above the Rest

My roommate, Bailey Caffe, is #7 on the Baylor University Acrobatics and Tumbling team, so naturally I choose to interview my roomie for this profile story assignment. I love talking to Bailey and listening about all the random stuff that goes on during her day and obviously most of it has something to do with Acrobatics and Tumbling and being apart of the Original 27.

She always has something interesting to say about being a student athlete. You can just look at her and know that she has something interesting to say about it. For instance, the other day Bailey was rubbing Neosporin all of her arms and legs. I naturally asked why and she told me that for their workout this morning she had to push a giant tire from one side of the gym to the other. Thus she had strawberries on her arms and legs. I never realized how much Acrobatics and Tumbling was a sport till I heard how intense their workouts are. I played basketball for my entire life and not once did I ever have to do something as extreme as pushing a giant tire across the gym! Whatever workout works for her, she is very successful at her position as a flyer.

Bailey is so funny. She LOVES flying. She loves flying so much she will just be chilling at our house and randomly lift her leg above her head, because according to her, "sitting normally is just not as comfortable." Like this happens all the time...I never see Bailey sitting normally!

I always laugh when I see her sitting in the weirdest positions. She is just such an all around great athlete to be so dedicated to her sport that she will never miss any practice or workout. She is also a Biology major with her mindset to medical school and she is an active member of Delta Delta Delta. I just don't know how she does is. She is AMAZING...and I think I am busy with just being a Public Relations major and being active in Delta Delta Delta. She sure trumps me. But I guess we all have our strengths and weaknesses. She flies and I am a dedicated student and member of my sorority.

Taking Chances

In Journalism 2303 at Baylor University, my class was instructed to write a fake obituary about a real living celebrity. I am not going to lie, but it was difficult to write an obituary on someone who hasn't died. When writing this obituary, I felt like I was actually killing her, like not literally, but in the sense that I made up her death. Making up how they died and caping the end of their career when they still in reality have so much more potential was just hard to even do or think about.
I wrote my fake obituary on the one and only Celine Dion who has a, "one of a kind voice," according to The New York Times.

I found it difficult to do this assignment, because I think she is an amazing singer and person and I still await new material from her. You would think that making up her cause of death would be one of the hardest parts of this assignment. It made me feel even a little bit guilty, but it wasn't the hardest part. The hardest part about writing this essay was summing up all her success in a short obituary.
Excerpt: "Dion became a worldwide phenomenon when she won a Grammy, the highest honor in the music industry, for Best Pop Album, "Let's Talk About Love."  "Let's Talk About Love," eventually went Diamond, for over 1 million copies sold.
She also became a household name when she sang, "My Heart Will Go On," which was written for the movie, Titanic. She won an Academy Award, the highest honor in the movie industry, for Best Original Song.'
She is a household name with a successful show in Las Vegas, multiple grammy wins, and even being a mom with a loving heart for everyone.

Doing this assignment really helped re-spark my interest for Celine Dion...in fact her song is playing on my iTunes right now. Ironically, "A New Day Has Come," because I am writing this in the wee hours of the morning. After doing this assignment, I looked back and realized I really enjoyed it. Because I got to pick my "beat," which was obviously Celine Dion. I have always thought she was an amazing singer and has always seemed to be caring for her fans all around the world. She has found her way into the hearts of many people as well as mine, and proved her title as, "one of pop music's most influential voices," to everyone.
I am glad this obituary was fake or else I would be really upset. I hope the Celine sings and puts out many more albums. I might not have understood it then, but I feel lucky that my parents made me listen to her as a kid. She really is such a gifted singer, thank goodness for her awesome music that I love.
